The Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action is a set of suggestions/things people can do to better the relationship with Indigenous peoples after generations of mistreatment and injustice (particularly Residential Schools) in all parts of society (law, government, education, etc.). As future educators, it is crucial for us to know the historical, cultural, and emotional impact that Residential Schools had on various Indigenous people, as well as find ways to better their experience through an accepting, loving, and inclusive education. Through teachings of Indigenous peoples’ ways of Knowing and Being, by Indigenizing the classroom with art and elements of Indigenous peoples’ cultures, as well as communicating and establishing good relations with Indigenous parents, we can work towards reconciliation and slowly improve generations of mistreatment towards Indigenous people.
