To me, the First Peoples Principles of Learning represent the ongoing work of teachers towards reconciliation and Indigenization of classrooms, which is to include, honor, and accept Indigenous teachings and beliefs into predominant Euro-centric spaces. As a future BC teacher and a non-Indigenous person, it is my duty to positively incorporate elements of Indigenous people’s cultures and stories into my class so that my students can grow to care and accept the teachings of the people that have resided this land since time immemorial, as well as change the collective belief of Western education as the only valid way to learn. As two of the FPPL states, “Learning is embedded in memory, history, and story” and “Learning recognizes the role of Indigenous knowledge”.
